The prices of most commodities eased back this week. Agricultural commodities fared slightly better, primarily on the back of weather-related concerns about supply. Data released on Friday confirming somewhat stronger GDP growth in China in the fourth quarter failed to lift the prices of the more industrial commodities, perhaps because markets had already priced in the good news. Instead, investors focused on signs of moderation in the monthly December activity and investment data.
