Tighter financial conditions may prompt rate cut

Although the Canadian dollar has weakened further lately, financial conditions overall appear to be tightening now because of rising market interest rates and new stricter mortgage rules. Given the significant imbalances in the household sector that pose risks to the wider economy and financial stability, we fear tightening financial conditions might undermine economic growth, leaving the Bank of Canada with no other choice but to lower its policy interest rate.
