Is Mexico eating Canada’s lunch?

Our analysis suggests that the weakness of Canadian manufacturing output is partly due to the knock-on drag from the collapse in the mining sector. In addition, however, Canadian manufacturers are struggling to compete successfully with Mexican producers who are enjoying exactly the same boost to competitiveness from a weaker currency. Only in industries that face little, if any, competition from Mexico, are Canadian producers managing to exploit successfully the weaker loonie.
