June’s activity data were broadly positive for Q2, with both the industrial production and capital goods shipments data suggesting the economy expanded at a decent pace. However, firms’ forecasts for industrial production over the next two months point to GDP contracting in Q3, in line with our forecast for the economy to be recession in the second half.
