Recovery should endure political uncertainty

With a hung parliament appearing overwhelming likely, Thursday’s general election looks set to be followed by days, if not weeks, of political horse-trading, and whatever government is finally formed is likely to be less stable than the last. Nonetheless, the economy has performed well during past periods of political instability and the present strength of consumer confidence and investment intentions suggests that recovery is unlikely to be knocked off course.
