The conventional wisdom is that when the US Fed changes interest rates, the UK MPC usually follows suit soon after. However, the historical record contains several exceptions to this pattern. And as the MPC emphasised in its latest minutes, its actions will be determined by the domestic economy, not by other central banks. We still think this will warrant a later and slower policy tightening than in the US.
