The US Fed’s decision to finally press ahead and raise interest rates yesterday begged the question ofwhether the MPC will quickly follow suit. However, in the near term, the only British mention of “liftoff” is likely to be in relation to astronaut Tim Peake. Indeed, the MPC looks set to lag the Fed bysome margin, although we continue to think that the first hike will come sooner than markets expect.
