While we are positive about the prospects for productivity growth, we don’t think workers will fully benefit from this and the gains will only partially feed through to higher wage growth. This means that growth in unit labour costs should stay muted and inflation will probably rise back to target slowly. What’s more, the labour share of income should continue to fall, denting the public finances.
