The pros and cons of bank nationalisation

Speculation is growing that the Government will soon take a majority stake in Lloyds, representing another step towards full nationalisation of large parts of the banking system. Full nationalisation would significantly boost the Government’s exposure to rising losses. But if it is the only way to get banks lending more money, the Government could decide that these risks are a price worth paying.
