Riksbank cuts rates to zero but deflation threat persists

Sweden’s central bank today stepped up its fight against deflation, cutting its main policy rate to a record low of 0% and pushing back the date at which it first expects to raise rates. We think that the Riksbank may well need to resort to currency intervention before too long to prevent deflation from becoming even more entrenched and risking a Japanese-style “lost decade”.
