Yesterday’s inflation data from Egypt made for grim reading and we think the headline rate is likely to peak at around 27% in the coming months, prompting further interest rate hikes. Price pressures should start to ease around the middle of the year as the effects of pound weakness and administered price hikes begin to fade. Further ahead, economic reforms could lead to a sustained period of lower inflation.
