Weak data increase the chance of ECB QE

Events last week gave support to our long-held view that the ECB will have to take the plunge and launch a full-blown quantitative easing programme in the coming months. Survey data added to mounting evidence that the recovery has already peaked. And with fiscal targets unlikely to be relaxed significantly, the onus is still likely to fall on monetary policy to support the economy.
