The latest evidence of rising German wages growth suggests that households’ real incomes are receiving some much-needed support. But we still expect slowing activity to prevent wages growth from rising much further. And with consumer confidence falling and the government unlikely to provide fiscal support, there is little prospect of a near-term recovery in consumer spending growth.
