Comments from the European Central Bank have retained a relatively hawkish tone, suggesting that it will be some time before the Bank is prepared to bolster the flagging economy with interest rate cuts. But with the region already at risk of recession and inflation likely to slow sharply in the coming months, we still expect rates to fall further next year than markets currently anticipate.
