ECB President Trichet will maintain a familiarly hawkish tone at June’s press conference, perhaps adding to speculation that interest rates could yet rise further. We still expect inflation to moderate towards the end of this year as slowing activity takes effect. Provided that this happens, the next move in interest rates should be down. But it looks like the first rate cut is a good few months away.
