What next for the Turkish lira?

The fresh sharp falls in the Turkish lira this week reflect growing concerns about the state of domestic policymaking and the health of the banking sector. Monetary tightening or an improvement in relations with the US could support a relief rally. For what it’s worth, the experience of recent EM currency crises is that the currency tends to settle and start to regain some ground a few months after the crisis begins.
