Turkey’s debt repayment crunch

Turkey’s economy has so far managed to come through the worst of the plunge in the lira without suffering acute financial stress. That said, the banking sector faces a large external debt repayment schedule over the next few months and in the spring of 2019, and banks’ foreign currency borrowing costs have risen sharply. The risk of a more severe crisis is still present.
