Today’s cut in the Turkish overnight lending rate is partly cosmetic and the impact on domestic demand is likely to be limited. We wouldn’t rule out a few more steps to narrow the “interest rate corridor” over the coming months, but ultimately high external financing risks mean that the scope for central bank action is limited and the Bank could still be forced to tighten policy again.
