Turkey cuts rates in spite of high inflation and external risks

Following today’s surprise move by the Turkish central bank to lower its one-week repo rate, it looks like the MPC will continue to ease policy over the coming months. But given the country’s persistent external vulnerabilities and high rate of inflation, we think additional rate cuts will be small in scale.
