Having cut its benchmark interest rate earlier today, the National Bank of Hungary appears to be keeping all its options open regarding future movements in the policy rate. For what it’s worth, we think today’s cut probably marked the end of the easing cycle. But the bigger picture is that, in the absence of a sharp fall in the forint, monetary policy is likely to remain loose for longer than most expect.
