Australia’s public finances are still in good shape

Australia’s government expects to make little headway in reducing its budget deficit in 2013/14. The government had previously been aiming to balance the budget in the current fiscal year, but revenues have failed to meet expectations. Nevertheless, Australia’s public finances are still among the strongest in the world and bond yields should remain low for the foreseeable future.
