Will copper continue to underperform oil?

We expect the recent under-performance of copper prices relative to oil to be reversed over the remainder of the year. Oil prices have been boosted by supply outages which should prove temporary, while further gains are likely to be capped by the possibility of a rebound in US shale output and higher Saudi Arabian production. In contrast, copper prices should benefit from stronger Chinese demand.
