Chinese commodity imports supported by stockbuilding

Lower prices encouraged some opportunistic Chinese buying of commodities last month but the likelihood is that, in many cases, stocks were being replenished rather than this being a sign of a sustained recovery in demand. Indeed, exports of steel continued to soar, pointing to weak domestic demand.
