China’s businesses have grown in confidence in the last quarter but banks and consumers are far less upbeat. Banks are increasingly worried about overheating and the need for policy tightening. Households are unhappy with inflation and still, by a wide margin, prefer to save rather than spend. Low real interest rates on bank deposits seem to be pushing many to consider investing in equities or property.
