“National Team” strategy looking tarnished

Sliding share prices over the course of the past week have exposed the limits of the government’s interventions to support the market. Indeed, in going to such lengths to save the market, the government has probably set back the chances of it delivering sustained gains. While we think the economic outlook is not nearly as poor as generally believed, we nonetheless expect the Shanghai Composite to end next year lower than it is today.
