The sinking Canadian dollar has prevented the annual core CPI inflation rate from falling below the mid-point of the Bank of Canada 1% to 3% inflation target range, despite the worsening economic downturn and growing slack in the economy. But tentative signs are emerging that the latter is starting to outweigh inflationary exchange rate effects, no matter how persistent they might be.
