May's more modest 7,700 gain in employment is forgivable given the unusually strong growth in the previous two months. That said, the details were somewhat discouraging. While part-time employment accounted for most of the increase in employment, self-employment increased by 23,300, offset by losses in the private sector. The silver lining perhaps was that the unemployment rate remained at 7.3%.
