Labour Force Survey (Mar.) & Trade (Feb.)

March's ugly 54,500 decline in employment offsets the previous month's equally surprising gain, leaving employment little changed over the first quarter of this year. Given recent sluggish GDP growth this is not terribly surprising. Unfortunately, February's international trade did not help improve estimates of first-quarter economic growth either. Overall, we think there is some slight downside risk to our estimate that GDP increased by a modest 1.2% annualised.
