Our relative views on monetary policy in the US and Australia suggest that US 10-year bond yields will rise further above Australian yields this year. While this would be rare, what’s more unusual is that the complete erosion of Australia’s traditional interest rate premium hasn’t significantly weakened the Australian dollar. We still think the dollar will fall this year, but by less than we previously thought.
