A look at China’s growing corn problem

Chinese import demand has been a key factorshaping agricultural commodity prices over thepast decade or more. Recently the NationalDevelopment and Reform Commission (NDRC)and the Ministry of Agriculture have indicatedthat they will allow the market to play a more“decisive role” in setting domestic corn prices.This has led to speculation about the extent towhich China will ease back on its supportprogramme for corn farmers.
