It’s been a bad month for Nigerian markets as local stocks have declined further, reaching their lowest level since February. The latest leg down appears to have been triggered by the central bank’s decision to cut interest rates, despite strains in the balance of payments. A host of restrictions on access to foreign currency mean the official exchange rate didn’t fall following themove, but we do expect the naira to be devalued in 2016.
