US Mortgage Applications (Feb. 2025)

The sharp fall in home purchase mortgage applications in February confirms that the rebound in mortgage rates late last year is suppressing home purchase demand. Recent declines in Treasury yields imply that there will be some relief for mortgage rates over the coming weeks, but with rates still at high levels and consumer confidence faltering amid Trump policy uncertainty, a near-term major pick-up in home sales is unlikely.
