Is the US economy headed for recession?

Although our forecast for first-quarter GDP growth is now down to -1.9% annualised, we still believe that, on balance, the US economy will escape recession and rebound in the second quarter, as the distortion caused by the unseasonably severe winter weather and the pre-tariff- surge in imports are both reversed.
