China’s strict border controls are holding back the tourism recovery in the rest of the region. With no sign that Beijing is in any hurry to change its zero-COVID policy, it will likely take years for Asia’s tourism industry to recover fully from the pandemic. This will hold back economic growth in places that were previously most dependent on Chinese tourists, notably Thailand and Hong Kong.
