Have homebuilders shut out first-time buyers?

In recent years, homebuilders have focussed on constructing more expensive properties. However, that primarily reflects builders responding to underlying demand conditions. So, for the most part, we doubt their actions have frustrated first-time buyers who typically seek homes in the sub $200,000 price bracket. Indeed, with credit conditions now loosening, there are early signs that new homes entering the market are becoming cheaper.
