Further pick-up in GDP growth expected

The 1.7% annualised gain in second-quarter GDP was pretty modest, even if it did come in above market expectations. Nevertheless, most other data releases last week indicated that GDP growth is accelerating in the second half of the year. Under those circumstances, we would expect the Fed to stick with its plan to begin tapering its monthly asset purchases at the next FOMC meeting in September.
