Goods supply shortages are now easing. Like the recent stabilisation in labour market slack, that improvement has, at least partly, been driven by a slowdown in demand, so it isn’t a sign that economic growth is about to accelerate. But it does support our view that the upward pressure on core goods inflation will soon ease – even if surging oil prices keep overall inflation high over the coming months.
