As the recent slowdown in economic growth and the rebound in the unemployment rate have come at a time when core inflation has risen rapidly, the Fed is unlikely to announce a third round of asset purchases (QE3) after next Tuesday's policy meeting. But if we're right in thinking that economic growth will remain weak and that the rise in core inflation will prove temporary, QE3 could make an appearance next year.
