The new ‘transitional arrangements’ included in the finalised Mortgage Market Review are to be welcomed, as they will help prevent ‘mortgage prisoners’ being unfairly treated by their existing lender. But we don’t expect it will lead to a surge in remortgaging activity for this group. Remortgaging will continue to be constrained by concerns over the prospects for repayment.
