Are parents keeping the housing market going?

The CML recently reported that, in the past two years, the percentage of first-time buyers being helped by their parents to gather a deposit has doubled. At first sight, this may suggest that parents are propping up first-time buyer activity. However, on closer inspection, while the share may have risen, the number of first-time buyers being helped by parents has dropped.
