Contrary to popular perception, the current divergence between house price inflation in different parts of the country is neither new, nor abnormally high. It is possible that, in time, the resilience of house prices in the South could help to stabilise prices in the North. But if, as we expect, prices continue to fall in the North, we think that house prices in the South will ultimately follow suit.
