Low interest rates alone will not prevent the recent falls in house prices from being extended, perhaps significantly this year. Rather, we expect that the benefits of low interest rates will be overwhelmed by rising unemployment, weak house price expectations and tight credit conditions. In short, we are probably now already witnessing the early stages of a house price double-dip.
