Recent Brexit developments have increased the chances of a second referendum and the possibility of the UK staying in the EU. The lengthy run-up to a second referendum would cause uncertainty to increase in the near term and weigh on economic growth next year. But the boost to business confidence from remaining in the EU could see the economy grow more strongly in 2020 than we currently expect.
