Labour Market Monitor (Oct.)

We think that this Wednesday’s labour market figures will show that the unemployment rate held steady in August, which could prompt markets to push back further their expected timing of the first rise in Bank Rate. Even if the unemployment rate does edge down, recent signs that productivity is now recovering suggest that it will still take a number of years to fall to the MPC’s 7% threshold.
