Why have we been wrong on inflation?

While we think that we’ve done a pretty good job of forecasting the economy recently, we readily admit that our record of forecasting inflation has left a lot to be desired. Given the apparently weaker link between spare capacity and inflation, we are raising our medium-term forecast a bit. But we do not think that this will, or should, stop the MPC from giving the economy more support.
