Is private equity good for the economy?

By overcoming the shortcomings of the publicly quoted market, private equity is promoting efficiency throughout the economy. Admittedly, private equity’s stellar returns to investors are also driven by tax breaks and higher gearing, which bring no benefit to the economy overall while increasing the vulnerability of the corporate sector. On the whole, however, private equity is undoubtedly bringing benefits to the country at large.
