Growing apart or coming together? - The regional outlook for the economy

The common perception is that the fiscal squeeze will prompt the traditional North-South divide to widen. However, we think it is more likely that the different regions of the UK will see a more uniform performance in the next few years than in the past. In this Quarterly Review, we present for the first time some formal forecasts for economic growth and employment by region, which we intend to update and publish on a regular basis. We will also now be including regular commentary on the regions.
