UK Retail Sales (Dec.)

December’s modest rise in the official measure of retail sales was disappointing given the far more upbeat tone of the surveys and trading updates. Although the figures should not be taken as gospel, they were a timely reminder that UK consumers should not be relied upon to drive a strong economic recovery.
