The slight fall in the GfK/NOP measure of consumer confidence in December is not cause for alarm. Indeed, the forward-looking balances were unchanged. And with inflation now likely to be at its peak, the squeeze on real wages should abate over the course of 2018, setting the scene for a recovery in consumer confidence.
