The latest opinion polls suggest that the Mexican presidential election may be closer than expected. Further gains for the left-wing Andrés Manuel López Obrador may spark some turbulence, but in general the market impact should be fairly muted. Rather, it is the risk that reforms will stall and prevent the economy from achieving its potential over the medium-term that could ultimately weigh on returns.
